As a diehard Yankee fan I appreciate the love for Bobby Abreu, but I do not see him finishing second in the MVP race, especially behind Manny being Manny. But knowing the Yankees luck, Abreu will finish second and the Yankees will reward him with a 4 or 5 year deal and overpay him when he is passed is prime, like Posada and Mo Rivera.
The problem with Hafner is that if Ortiz couldn't win an MVP award during his monster 2005 and 2006 seasons, I can't see how they can justify ever giving it to any DH. The precedent has already been set.
Tex isn't a bad choice. Kinda forgot about him, but given the silly, unwritten rule that writers have adopted where your team must make the playoffs to be MVP, he probably wouldn't fit on my board.
True, I forgot about the whoe DH thing. But I have a weird feeling the MVP is going to come from the Indians. If and when Victor Martinez comes back he will be a serious contender for the crown.
